BDI Surgery's Woburn, Massachusetts manufacturing facility manufactures hemostasis products, hernia and abdominal wall repair products. The facility also manufactures biological odor eliminators and creams/gels for BDI Interventional's Urology & Critical Care business unit, which is used primarily in hospitals and nursing homes.
BDI Surgery's Woburn, Massachusetts manufacturing plant has an exciting semester long, full-time Co-op opportunity. Under direct supervision and guidance, this co-op will be provided an opportunity to be exposed to the medical device field and offered hands on experience working within the Operations group in an Engineering capacity. Working with cross-functional process and product development teams and alongside experienced engineers, you will contribute to design solutions and the advancement of new process and product development projects related to hemostatic agents for the control of surgical bleeding. This individual would be responsible for compiling, analyzing and reporting operational test and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified products, processes or materials. You will be assigned to specific product and/or support teams.
Undertakes and successfully completes simple or basic project/product development tasks to include any of the following: developing and writing test protocols and methods, formulating, characterizing and evaluating process development activities, product prototypes, developing and documenting new processes and product concepts, documenting of all test results and processes.
May assist in inventing / creating concepts and designs/approaches for new products/processes/test methods.
Designs, procures and fabricates simple tooling and fixtures.
Designs and coordinates engineering tests and experiments.
Prepares standard reports/documentation to communicate results to technical community.
Completes basic tasks on engineering documentation.
Train technicians/operators on new processes and/or test procedures.
Identifies areas for improvement, suggests solutions and submits idea records.
Special projects as assigned.
In order to be eligible for the R&D Co-op position, the candidate must be enrolled in an accredited college/institution and be in good academic standing pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. Only students in their Sophomore year or above will be considered. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required (or 4.0 for those enrolled in programs with a 5.0 scale). The student must be available to work during session indicated and demonstrated leadership/participation in campus programs and/or community service activities.
Session: 2019 Spring Co-Op Program (January through May 2019). Student must be available to work for a 6 month assignment - Monday through Friday, 8:15 am to 5:00 pm.
This position is located in Woburn, MA and student will be required to provide his/her own transportation. Monthly commuter allowance available to those students traveling over 50 miles one way.
