Job Description Summary

BD Life Sciences Operations is seeking a highly motivated Automation and Control Engineer to be part of blood culture media manufacturing operations. This full time position reports to the Engineering Manager. In charge of Manufacturing processes and equipment for projects ranging from technical and / electrical problem resolution, formulation and process improvements and product transfers. During intial plant startup to support transfer for new products and technologies.

Job Description

  • Lead Projects and / or act as an integral member of project teams tasked with resolving technical issues or continuous improvement projects utilizing Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing.

  • Work with the Global Manufacturing development teams to convert new processes and concepts into deployment ready engineering at production scale.May be expected to lead the assembly members & technicians during Machine set-up, Machine Assembly Process, Alignment, Testing & commissioning.

  • Design, develop, and implement control systems (hardware & software) to improve production times, reduce human operators, equipment performance, energy consumption, down-time reduction, and process automation.

  • Work with Manufacturing, and Quality to establish process parameters for all operations/ machines and update all process specifications or issues before release to manufacturing for mass production.

  • Provide documentations and training to Technicians on process and equipment knowledge, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis to improve competency of maintenance technicians on control and PLC.

  • Conducting root cause analysis of identified losses and utilizing structured problem-solving methods to develop effective corrective action/countermeasures.Independently apply scientific principles to achieve project objectives, including the design and execution of experiments and the analysis and interpretation of results.

  • Liaise with Global Manufacturing Engineering group or vendors to resolve equipment issues and manage performances to exceed equipment KPI and goals.

  • Implement equipment improvement projects to improve equipment's efficiency, cost reduction and reliability of equipment.

  • Updating and writing work procedures and work instructions as needed.

  • Interacts with others with Process Technology, Media Manufacturing, R&D and other functions within BD and with external customers, vendors and suppliers.

  • Design and develop automation controls including ladder logic or any other control software application.

  • Engage with Global Manufacturing Engineering team to develop new manufacturing processes and scales up established processes in the areas of resin wash/processing, product sterilzation and packaging. Evaluate and review new manufacturing technologies and/or equipment to improve manufacturing performances (safety, quality, capacity, and cost).

  • Generate and execute validation protocols of new or modified equipment (IQ/OQ/PQ).

  • Project support including writing protocols, specifications, Request for Proposal, project schedule, etc

  • Participates in project assignments, as directed by management.

  • Provide support in the analysis and resolution of the CAPA, QN, and Notification related issues.

  • May be assigned to lead and/or participate in the Lean and Six Sigma program to support improvement projects.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
