The Cell Culture Technician II will play a critical role as the primary point of contact for the culturing, plating, distribution, maintenance, and banking of cell culture lines. In addition, this position will provide general lab support to our Research and Development laboratories. The support duties include buffer formulation, inventory maintenance, hazardous waste management, and general lab hygiene tasks. The successful candidate will possess excellent organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to thrive in an efficient, highly interactive, goal-oriented team environment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

The required laboratory skills and training include expertise in mammalian cell culture, aseptic technique, cell culture techniques, and sterile media preparation.

Essential Functions:

Culture cells across a variety of cell lines, plate formats and media conditions within specifications to support our internal Research and Development activities.

Supply and maintain working and active cell banks

Isolation of cells (e.g. PBMCs) from human-derived primary samples, including blood.

Staining and counting cells on commercial and proprietary cell counters

Media and buffer preparation

Maintain inventory of critical laboratory supplies (consumables and reagents) in stockrooms and other inventory areas.

Other duties as assigned


Experience working in a Biosafety Level 2 laboratory environment, performing cell culture with multiple different human and other mammalian cell lines, including stem cells

Experience working with primary samples derived from various mammalian species (human, mouse, etc) including blood and saliva.

Knowledge and skills required to perform cryopreservation of cells

Proficiency with brightfield and fluorescent microscopy

Excellent aseptic technique

Knowledge required to formulate common laboratory buffers

Excellent attention to detail, can work quickly and accurately, organizing tasks and delivering quality with efficiency

Ability to work and maintain strong relationships with department managers, members of your team and other departmental staff

Ability to read and understand Standard Operating Procedures

Knowledge of GLP/GDP guidelines. Maintenance of all required documentation

Proficient with Outlook, Excel and other required computer applications

Education/Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field

2-5 years’ experience performing cell culture and lab support activities in a BSL2 lab environment

Ability to troubleshoot common technical problems associated with cell culture.

Experience working in a lab, with basic lab skills and knowledge (pipetting, dilutions, titrations, etc.)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience with Flow Cytometry strongly preferred
