Job Description Summary

Sirigen, Inc. is a subsidiary of BD Biosciences and produces polymeric reagents for use in Flow Cytometry and other biological applications.
The Scientist II, Conjugation multi-tasks in a team environment to prepare conjugates for Research and Development activities. The Scientist II works independently and solves problem. Works on challenging tasks and troublesome production orders to ensure expected quality and yield. Determines pooling fractions, reviews batch records and performs in-process inspections.
Primary duties include but are not limited to the following:
Performs different conjugation formats accurately and independently, having a complete understanding of the techniques, theories and background involved.
Has consistency in technique, documentation, data entry, labeling, aliquot of QC samples, equipment operation, meeting production specifications with assignments and committing to due dates.
Understands background and critical point to chemistry involved in making assignments through training and reading.
Be proficient in all formats within conjugation group, with a complete understanding of the techniques and background involved. Use experience and knowledge for troubleshooting; process evaluation, assignment review, and emphasis on setting training expectations.
Has a firm understanding of all SOPs and batch records and is able to explain them to junior personnel.
Reviews and addresses issues during batch record and other document review to minimize impact to the business.
Contributes to the completion of milestone associated with specific projects, where failure to achieve results may cause delays in program schedules.
Train or mentor to junior staff.
Trusted to complete difficult assignments.
Participates in training or regulatory issues affecting reagent development. Brings regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of supervisor.
Follows all departmental guidelines and procedures.
Promotes a safe work environment. Offers recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in Environmental Health & Safety programs. Participates in addressing corrective actions whenever hazard is identified. Notifies supervisor of all observed unsafe work practices.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a biological science discipline with 3 or more years of relevant conjugation experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
General knowledge of biology, biochemistry or other related discipline.
Experience with protein conjugation (fluorophore, small molecule and fluorescent proteins and protein purification methods).
Familiarity with operation of routine laboratory instruments and applicable software.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures.
Effective organization and planning skills to ensure on time delivery.
Demonstrated ability to keep neat, accurate and complete batch records.
