BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Program Manager in San Diego, California
Job Description Summary
The Software Technology Solutions (STS) organization within BD is recruiting for a highly driven cross-functional project leader with proven product development and technical leadership to drive new initiatives strategic to BD businesses that STS closely partners to deliver customer outcomes through actionable analytics.
The Program Manager has accountability for the market delivery and success of Data Science and Analytics Solutions comprising multiple projects. This position leads the planning and execution of the development effort by leading one or more Agile/Scrum teams and Analytics teams as well as driving cross functional readiness for product commercialization.
Partner with the business to prepare and present project business case/strategy, execution recommendations, and periodic program updates to the business Leadership Team (LT).
Ensures alignment of product value proposition, program scope, and strategic business objectives.
Drive alignment with project decision-makers, based on business and technical merits.
Lead Core Teams consisting of representatives and subject matter experts from various functions in the execution of project deliverables (e.g., Data Science, Engineering, Marketing, Regulatory, etc.).
Consistently applies a combination of project management methodologies, such as Agile/Scrum, Kanban and Waterfall to successfully deliver business and customer outcomes
Leads the team to prepare for Phase Gate and other Go/No-Go decisions by executive leadership, ensuring that decisions are informed by a balanced and clearly articulated representation of the relevant data.
Leads structured program planning and execution process spanning product discovery, requirements and estimations, statement of work (SoW) or project charters, integrated project plans and delivery aligned to customer needs.
Solidifies and manages project scope, schedule and coordinates with functional leaders to resource projects appropriately and execute to expected results.
Facilitates identification of project or program risks/issues, develops and assigns responsibility for mitigation/resolution actions; manages mitigation plan across multiple projects and stakeholders.
Synthesizes critical information and communicates business implications to stakeholders. Ensures effective communications with the Core Teams using appropriate tools and channels.
Leads product development utilizing appropriate processes and techniques, such as BD’s Global Product Development System and Agile Development.
Provides servant leadership as a Scrum Master to one or more development and analytic teams. Leads key technical design and commercial excellence reviews, constructively challenging the team and the organization to rethink assumptions and approach headwinds in new ways.
Actively promotes continuous learning to improve skills of self and the group.
Ensures cross functional and technical lessons are reviewed, learned, and disseminated.
Accountable for overall commercial success of products/solutions.
Provides meaningful feedback to functional managers and leaders regarding the performance of Core Team members for annual performance evaluations.
Adhering and complying to the BD Quality Management System (QMS) processes, including design controls
Ability to use AZURE DevOps desired
PlanView Portfolio Management knowledge desired.
Ability to set direction, align goals, lead, and influence others in a matrix organization

4+ years of experience leading cross-functional teams on complex programs in external customer-facing product development.
Measurable track record of successful program delivery (schedule, budget, resources, quality).
Ability to strategically identify, track, and address program dependencies across business units.
Practical resolution of critical program risks and issues which could impact or have impacted program delivery and quality.
Consultative experience working with key decision-makers and stakeholders in Software Engineering, Data Science, Marketing, R&D/Engineering, Customer Support, Quality, Regulatory, Risk Management, and others.
Experience supervising teams and assessing, directing work through extended sub-teams or work streams.
Capacity to mentor team members and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
Passion for disciplined program management, formal program documentation, and transparency.
Bachelor degree in a related field. MBA preferred, but not required.
PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) or Scrum Master Certification preferred, but not required. Healthcare or medical device/technology industry experience preferred, but not required.
Familiarity with Business Intelligence, Data Visualization Solutions, and Advanced Analytics methods and approaches (e.g. statistical methods, regression analysis, machine learning algorithms) desirable, but not required.
