BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) OPS lab technician in San Diego, California
Job Description SummaryThe OPS Lab Technician is responsible for duties in the OPS Lab at BD. OPS lab supports instrument manufacturing by designing, fabricating, repairing and installing test and assembly equipment; troubleshooting and repairing production and field failures; executing engineering tests and documenting the results; analyzing test data; and manufacturing process design, maintenance and analysis. Duties include failure investigation, troubleshooting, electronic circuit analysis, test equipment design and fabrication, engineering test design, execution and analysis, documentation, training associates, and any other duties required to maintain production schedules.
Troubleshoot and repair electronic and electro-mechanical systems
Document repair methods and results
Design, build, troubleshoot and repair manufacturing test and assembly equipment
Install and document manufacturing test and assembly equipment
Train associates on the products and processes
Perform engineering tests and document results
Be effective as an individual contributor and as a team member
Properly maintain lab stock inventory, test equipment, tools, and technical data.
OPS Lab Tech Specific Responsibilities:
Test, troubleshoot, and rework printed circuit boards.
Troubleshoot, repair and install manufacturing test and assembly equipment.
Document troubleshooting, repair and installation activities.
Train production, service, quality and engineering personnel on products and processes.
Perform Failure Investigations and document findings.
Create, review and red line engineering test protocols prior to execution.
Execute protocols and document the results.
Work effectively with all associates as a team member.
Design electronic circuits and circuit boards for test equipment.
Build and document manufacturing test and assembly equipment.
Research and specify manufacturing and test equipment.
Document rework and assembly processes with level of detail for others to replicate.
Perform testing at other facilities to demonstrate regulatory compliance.
Knowledge and Skills:
Must be able to read, understand and properly interpret detailed electrical and mechanical component drawings, schematics, graphs, assembly drawings and bills of materials, manufacturing and test instructions, and service manuals.
Ability to troubleshoot circuit boards, competent in wiring and soldering of electrical components.
Able to use standard laboratory instrumentation to test or troubleshoot, including multi-meters, oscilloscopes, function generators, logic analyzers and other test equipment and to learn uses of new equipment.
Proficient with Microsoft office Excel and Word.
Familiar with software and programming.
Experienced with medical devices and equipment (FDA regulations) or similar is desired.
Must have basic computer proficiency and be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
Knowledge in PC-based equipment and application software/networking/Laboratory Information System (LIS) is a plus.
Understanding or facility with statistics and lean principles a plus.
Effective interpersonal skills, communication, customer service, organization/prioritization and administrative skills.
Education and Experience:
- Technical or Vocational Training in Electronics or minimum of five years related experience preferred.
