GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Engineer II is a core part of BD’s Corporate Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) team and will have the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of BD’s next generation medical products and enhance the current product portfolio. The Engineer II, under the general direction of a Corporate CAE Staff Engineer and other team members, will apply structural analysis and other simulation techniques to optimize products and processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide advanced nonlinear structural analysis in support of BD’s medical, diagnostic, bioscience, and interventional product development applications.

  • Perform computer simulation studies for highly diverse structural and multiphysics applications utilizing finite element analysis (FEA) software such as Abaqus or COMSOL.

  • Characterize the behavior of complex polymer materials by designing experimental testing plans and calibrating nonlinear material models suitable for the simulation objectives.

  • Utilize additional engineering tools, in conjunction with numerical simulation tools, to develop solutions which meet or exceed performance and quality goals and obtain a deeper understanding of engineering problems.

  • Maintain state-of-the-art CAE analytical and numerical competencies through training courses, seminars, and industry conferences.

  • Interact with product development and R&D teams to leverage CAE tools for optimized part and product performance and quality.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S or M.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, with demonstrated engineering skills.

  • 1+ year of experience performing nonlinear FEA, preferably using Abaqus.

  • Programming/scripting experience, preferably using Python and/or Matlab.

  • Experience with the following tools is preferred: HEEDS, MCalibration/PolyUmod, COMSOL, Kornucopia, and Minitab.

  • Experience with modeling and/or experimental characterization of biological tissue is preferred.

  • Experience performing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations is preferred.

  • Proven ability to make individual contributions while collaboratively functioning as part of a larger team.

  • Desire and ability to learn and apply new skillsets to solve challenging engineering problems.

  • Ability to respectfully and effectively communicate with technical and non-technical professionals to inform decision making.

  • Familiarity in using 3D CAD solid modeling software packages, preferably SolidWorks.
