Job Description Summary

The Clinical Manager is directly responsible for promoting and facilitating the clinical solutions, education and technical support in the ANZ market. The role works directly with Sales and Marketing to provide service to both internal and external customer’s through clinical support and Development of the team. The role will promote best clinical practice in order to grow and support the business and align strongly with the associated therapy and therapy knowledge. In addition, this role implements continuous improvement solutions to customers such as audits and programs, whilst developing relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOL’s).

The Clinical Manager is responsible for coordinating the Clinical Nurse Educators to support successful implementation and evaluation of BD MDS products within Australia and New Zealand.

Job Description


  • Development of the clinical strategy to leverage and align current BD clinical programs so they effectively contribute to achieving its business objectives in addition to accelerating both top- and bottom-line growth

  • Responsible for managing customer clinical practice assessment/audits and ongoing monitoring of customer satisfaction and adherence to clinical best practices

  • Responsible for the development of project timelines, facilitation and scheduling of internal and external resources required for pre implementation assessment and post implementation compliance monitoring related to clinical best practice and proper aseptic technique.

  • Manage multiple projects throughout project life cycle, including pre-sale activity, coordination of multidisciplinary team and post implementation customer satisfaction follow-up.

  • Focus is on increasing customer awareness and adherence to clinical best practice through monitoring, discovery, direct customer interactions and continuing education.

  • Work directly with customers to understand issues and using conceptual modeling, communicate customer product enhancement and new product ideas back to marketing as part of the new product development process.

  • Identify, develop and update assessment and monitoring tools through lessons learned.

  • Apply continuous improvement principles to all current clinical programs including internal training programs for new starters together with providing support to the Clinical Nurse Educators and Product Managers in developing standardised sales support and education materials which are compliant with internal RA regulations, and identifying topical clinical issues to support the team.

  • Provide training and development to Clinical Nurse Educators and ensure they are updated with changes to policies or new clinical practices in the market.

  • Provide Clinical support as required in planning of trade conferences and exhibitions throughout ANZ.

  • Proactively develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers and key opinion leaders. Where appropriate develop and maintain relationships with relevant associations and government representatives to raise the BD profile with relevant decision-makers in the healthcare environment.

  • Have a sound knowledge of relevant Government legislation, standards and policies.

  • Maintain a strong clinical knowledge relating to Medication Delivery, Infection Control, Healthcare Worker and Patient Safety issues. Keep abreast of current issues in the health care arena.

  • Participate in the organisation and management of clinical trials and user studies in association with Global marketing.

  • Attend relevant industry trade shows, conferences and meetings as required.

  • Maintain company property, including computer equipment, in good working condition and also in an image that reflects the professional standards of BD at all times.

  • Adhere to the requirements of the Quality Management System as maintained by BD Australia and New Zealand.

  • Other related tasks at the discretion of management.

Conversion Management

  • Be the first point of contact for the MDS organisation regarding the planning and execution of all educational activities including clinical product conversions

  • Develop and maintain all conversion management tools; roll out to the broader organisation as required

  • Coordinate timing of conversions with other educational commitments

  • Negotiate with internal and external customers to develop an effective conversion schedule that will maximise resources and revenue whilst meeting or exceeding customer expectations

  • Liaise with external agencies to secure additional training resources as required

  • Ensure all external resources are trained and competent to conduct BD product training – maintain documentation regarding this competency

  • Support all product conversions as required

  • Ensure post-conversion assessments are conducted with customers – provide feedback to MDS organisation

  • Work with sales organisation to support their efforts in measuring post-conversion compliance

  • Maintain accurate records on SFDC of all accounts including activities, in-servicing records and contact details.

Other Working Conditions:

  • Some weekend and out of normal business hours work may be required at times to meet customer needs and timelines.

  • Domestic (and occasional international) travel will be required.

  • Flexibility in working hours would be advantageous.

  • Driver’s license essential.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • Registered Nurse (with current registration) with at least 5 years clinical experience

  • Commercial experience advantageous

  • A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent preferred.

  • Experience in managing a team desirable

  • Experience in the provision of adult education and training required.

  • Business acumen and commercial awareness are highly desirable.

  • Tenacious and highly self-motivated.

  • Must have a high level of technical competence and clinical experience in Medication Delivery, Infusion Therapy, and Infection Control practices.

  • Ability to deal with multiple priorities and short time lines from time to time. Must be able to work with the Sales team to set and manage appropriate customer expectations. Demonstrated ability in matching and delivering the appropriate level of education / support with the value of a business opportunity. Project management experience an asset. Active involvement in relevant nursing societies is desirable. Problem solving ability and demonstrated examples of innovative solutions. Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

  • Ability to interpret and maximize use of clinical data.

  • Excellent presentation skills, including white boarding

  • Demonstrated competence in computer literacy with knowledge of MS Office and Outlook.
