We are currently recruiting a talented R&D Project Engineer to join our new Research and Development (R&D) Centre of Excellence in Limerick. Working as part of the Hardware R&D Engineering team to design and develop new-to-world products for life science applications. Products hardware are typically multi-disciplinary in nature: mechanical, optical, electrical, and fluidic. This position has become available due to internal promotion.

You will play a key role working within the design team to support mechanical development, product reliability testing, and product compliance activities. The role will have a large cross functional element and work with dedicated project teams following sophisticated products from concept inception through to launch.

The team consists of Engineers and Scientists spanning Hardware and Systems engineering, Software Development, and Biological Applications. BDBI also boasts capability in Instrument Manufacturing and Supply Chain. The team have supported a number of exciting projects from concept through to full product development and commercial launch.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, coordination, design, and analyzing data of technical experiments at any stage of development including design of experiments activities for characterization, prototype testing, and qualification;

  • Work with subject matter experts within the R&D teams to develop product reliability plans, test protocols, and test bed design. Create automated reliability test platforms and analysis procedures;

  • Support and drive ongoing compliance with requirements for CE safety and all other product safety requirements;

  • New Product Introduction (NPI) support of new products into Manufacturing. Drives engineering designs and documentation for completeness, clarity and manufacturability for successful design transfer. Interface with manufacturing on an ongoing basis during the development and product enhancement stages to ensure manufacturability of design solutions;

  • Support the efforts in creation of specifications, design, and test methods for the new products;

  • Conduct risk management activities such as Failure Modes Effects Analysis.

The successful candidate will have between 3-4 years’ experience of working within a Hardware engineering group, developing new-to-world laboratory instruments.

You will have a Degree in Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering or relevant industrial experience in an electro-mechanical environment; biomedical device design experience advantageous. Hands on experience building breadboards, prototypes and production level instruments. Experience with data acquisition, analysis, and statistical approaches is a plus and knowledge with SolidWorks and CAD Modelling is an advantage. You will utilise Design for Six Sigma tools as appropriate to enhance the product design.

You must be an effective communicator who has excellent organization skills and an eye for detail. Being able to work in a team environment is imperative to this role.
