We are currently recruiting an experienced Innovation Leader to join our Worldwide R&D Department in Le Pont de Claix (Grenoble).

As the Innovation Leader, you will be responsible for developing future innovative product concepts, services, and/or value offerings for the BD Pharmaceutical Systems business unit.

You will research and assess market and clinical trends to identify unmet customer needs leading to growth opportunities.

o This role will partner with Strategic Innovation to interface with cross-functional internal and external experts, key opinion leaders, and customers to gather feedback, identify, assess, and build support for innovation business cases that expand the Pharmaceutical Systems portfolio and delivery new solutions to customer and patients worldwide.

You will lead creation and evaluation of concepts from a commercial, technical, and clinical perspective with the goal of advancing opportunities through successive innovation process gates until they enter formal project launch.

o Activities include competitive analysis, techno sensing, prototype creation, IP assessment, and evaluation of possible partnership/acquisition scenarios.

  • As the innovation leader, you ensure attractive innovative solutions will be identified and matured to meet unmet or under-served needs captured during the exploration process and to bring value to customers & patients

  • As part of the Innovation Team, you will work closely with Strategic Innovation, Cross-Functional representatives, other BD Business Units, and External Partners to foster a culture and mindset of innovation across the company.

You main responsibilities

Portfolio Development

  • You will develop proactively a deep understanding of the market, identify and propose any potential value creation axis (techno sensing roadmaps, acquisition opportunity, partnership, ...)

  • Support fact-based market and customer insights research to support the assessment of new opportunities within new “hunting ground” market sectors that accelerate revenue growth worldwide.

  • Support the creation of business cases for “outside the home court” innovation (i.e. white space and gray space), including cross-platform and cross-business unit opportunities.

  • Support cross-functional evaluation of growth opportunities to identify underlying clinical and pharma needs, evaluate market size and optimal segmentation, assess customer willingness-to-pay and adoption, identify likely regulatory pathways, assess IP and evaluate possible partnership/acquisition scenarios.

  • Support external ethnographic research projects, interview clinical and commercial subject matter experts and attend conferences / tradeshows to surface and prioritize new opportunities.

  • Build comprehensive business cases for new areas of opportunity with financial, commercial, regulatory and operational details.

  • You will lead team efforts (innovation cells) in achieving budget, schedule, and performance goals of a single large project or roadmap of projects, including successful transition to project kickoff.

  • Perform architecting or refining of high-level product concept to fulfill the customers / patients requirements, envision potential solutions embodiment and engage stakeholders with Minimal Viable Prototype (MVP) approach when appropriate.

  • Ideation, Prototyping, and Testing

  • Perform IP landscaping and generate new IP

  • Competitive Analysis (strengths and weaknesses, including competitor strategic intent)

  • Providing insights into technical feasibility and risk (technical rigor)

  • Align, set priorities and manage all cross-functional activities while meeting agreed upon technical, operational, business and customer requirements (work package definition and direction to the assigned cross-functional team Members to timely deliver the innovation deliverables)

  • Eliminate or minimizes barriers to progress, raise significant hurdles to Sr. management's attention for resolution.

  • Identify budget, resource, and capex planning estimates necessary to bring ideas/products to market.

Organizational Development

  • Animate internal & external innovation network (Subject Matter Experts involved in technical & market exploration) and define and drive appropriate initiatives to diffuse innovation mindset & culture through the organization (Innovation Fair, Hackathon, Showcases, …)

  • You will continuously propose and implement required improvements in the Innovation process to enhance agility, to fast track exploration and to maximize the value extracted from dedicated capabilities, expertise and resources, based on feedback collected and key learnings extracted.

  • Actively mentor associates in related technical roles. Provide technical direction and frequent feedback. Participate and assist in their success. Continue to raise the bar on technical skills and help associates rise to expectations. Advise management of technical needs and desired skill mix. Scope & Impact:

  • You will be accountable for successful innovation gate passage, delivering recommendations, escalating as appropriate risks/ issues/concerns of the team.

  • Represent the organization as prime technical contact on innovation projects. Interact with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations. You will develop outside partnerships to fertilize innovation process or projects.

  • Decisions of the R&D innovation leader have an impact on work processes and outcomes. Erroneous decisions or recommendations or failure to complete assignments normally result in serious delays and considerable expenditure or additional time, human resources and funds.

  • Exploration is performed without appreciable direction. You will exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments (proof of concept, Minimally Viable Prototypes, Customer feedback collection, ethnography studies, partnerships, …).

Leadership

  • Proven experience in technology or innovative product development preferably in the pharmaceutical and/or medical device industry with successful track record of delivering innovative concepts.

  • Innovative Ideas & Approaches - ability to generate novel ideas for defining, implementing and bringing to market new solutions.

  • Ability to combine ideas or concepts to generate insights or method for producing business and stimulate long term competitiveness.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree with advanced degree in a relevant technical field (mechanical, material, Electromechanical,…)

  • Experience in Medical device company or in Pharmaceutical industry with successful track record in Innovation management / product development / technology integration,..

  • 8 to 10 years experience

  • Fluent in English.

  • Integrity in behavior displaying fairness and truthfulness.
