Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Life Science Business Manager – Southern Africa, the National Sales Manager will be responsible for leading the DS South Africa sales team (four associates) to deliver key business objectives in the Diagnostic Space and translating them into business opportunities. The Individual will have the ability to work collaboratively with the customers, KOL’s and internal stakeholders to understand customer needs and build and develop customer solutions and take responsibility for converting these key opportunities into growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop clear & compelling commercial business strategies that drive category share growth in both private & public segments by actively seeking out new business opportunities for BD within South Africa based on customer trends, market trends, clinical and laboratory practices and customer needs.

  • Effectively manage a sales team of 4 to 8, responsible for the PS business in South Africa (including Namibia)

  • Identify potential opportunities by researching market and related events, publications, and announcements;

  • Identify potential new business opportunities.

  • Work with the sales team to develop customer based strategies

  • Manager and drive business growth through distributors within the region

  • Work with the Business Manager to develop pricing strategies for the region

  • Develop relationships with key customers and decision makers in both the Private and State Sectors

  • Work with the extended clinical team to ensure that Clinical Strategies are incorporated into the overall tactical plans for the region

  • Work with the extended marketing team to ensure that the selling and tactical plans are aligned with the marketing strategies for the region.

  • Plan and organize selling activities in collaboration with the sales team focussing on procurement, supply chain, and other commercial related persons.

  • Actively support the planning and arranging of clinical meetings (Pathologists, Nurses, GP’s, Technical Advisors, ect.)

  • Using the ‘BD Way of Selling’ guidelines, work with the sales team to ensure adherence to the concept as well as developing selling skills within the team. This includes working on Sales Force Dot Com.

  • Own and be accountable for new business leads (private, state, tender, etc.)

  • Develop and maintain a clear understanding of current market, vision of expected market evolution and implications on customer needs

  • Support and expand BD portfolio in current customer accounts and be the first point of contact for customer queries relating to sales activity and service

  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

  • Enhance organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

  • Travel as required to visit customers, and attend business meetings

  • Gain a forward looking understanding of South Africa healthcare funding and policies and how they relate to the DS business.

  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes and BD core values
