Reporting to the Molding Leader of WW Manufacturing Technology, this position is responsible for providing a standard approach to Mold Management at external vendors across BDX as a part of the global Injection Molding Process Technology function. This position will be responsible for delivering synergy savings over a 3 year period and provide technical input to ensure external vendors are capable of meeting the requirements for each application and that BD assets are well maintained throughout their product life. It will include ensuring that BD best practices are adhered to throughout the process to include mold RFQ, mold design reviews, mold design and build standards, hot runner requirements, mold FAT and Process Development. The objectives of these best practices are to ensure that product and process requirements and specifications are defined and met, enable a smooth transition into production, improve the scale up of new and existing products and improve the efficiency of the overall Mold Life Cycle Management to the appropriate level defined by these requirements. Additionally, this role will partner with both internal and external mold build and molding experts to identify and deploy the best technical solutions for a particular application. Metrics for this role will include the reduction of waste and the costs associated with mold repair and replacement. This position will work closely with the Operations, Procurement, Quality and R&D functions. This position will be accountable to provide Mold Management leadership across BDX.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Execute on synergy savings goals through the application of BD’s Molding Vendor Management assessment to improve Quality, Delivery and Cost. (35%)

  • Drive improvements to ensure molding vendors are capable of meeting their requirements in the areas of: mold making, molding, asset management, total cost of ownership, quality and delivery. (35%)

  • Work with Procurement function to organize and develop key vendor relationships that give BD a competitive advantage in sourcing the best technology and providing IP protection in its use. (15%)

  • Contribute to make vs. buy assessments. (10%)

  • Initiate Mold Management programs that create opportunities for improvement and contribute to BD’s cost savings goals. (5%)

  • Nature of the role requires the ability to influence peers, leaders, and subordinates to provide information and support to initiatives for the good of the overall organization.

  • Accountable for ensuring BD molding vendors are using best practices in Injection Mold Management. The output from these practices must meet the requirements of the cost, quality and service to deliver on synergy savings.

Qualification:

  • BS degree in Engineering required. Advanced degree in Plastics Engineering or Business preferred.

  • Master Molder preferred.

  • Working knowledge of plastic resins and processing, injection molding processes, tooling, total cost of ownership, and an understanding of cost drivers.

  • Project management, new product introduction, injection molding process development, New technology evaluation / implementation, Total Cost of Ownership analysis

  • At least 10 year experience in the design, development, and commercialization of high volume precision molding. Experience in medical device molding is preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge of metrology and measurement system analysis related to injection molding, management principles and practices, direct cost systems, quality control, mold design and process, manufacturing processes, hot runner systems, equipment and purchasing.

  • Significant knowledge of federal, state, or local mandates including, but not restricted to, FDA, SFDA, NHS, EEOC, OSHA, EPA, etc.

*This position can be located out of any BD site in the United States. Our Franklin Lakes, NJ location is preferred.

*This position is a temporary assignment which will include benefits such as (medical, health, dental, 401k). This position will support BD & BARD integration efforts and is anticipated to last for an estimated two years.
