BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Senior Test Technician in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey

Job Description SummaryThe Senior Test Technician is responsible for performing product engineering testing for product design performance along the product development process and life cycle management. This Senior Test Technician also provides technical support on equipment and methods within the R&D Lab network and is responsible for proactively managing complex issues with a high level of autonomy. Other responsibilities include setting priorities for self and contributing to lab planning, and accountability for the success of all activities and deliverables while maintaining good laboratory and documentation practices and ensuring compliance to applicable BD policies and procedures, as well as applicable standard and regulations.

Job Description

- Technical tasks related to product functional assessment including, but not limited to, concept feasibility, design verification, sustaining engineering, new product development.

  • Drive completion of all activities for experiments (planning, execution, analysis).

  • Identify and escalate all unexpected results. Plan and execute related investigations.

  • Report results of experiments to project leadership and prepare technical reports, as needed.

- Management of lab technologies and changes

  • Serve as a technical expert regarding general laboratory instrumentation, equipment, and processes. Responsible for proactively identifying and solving technical problems.

  • Lead or Contribute to Continuous Improvement projects including, but not limited to, test method validations, equipment qualifications, fixture development, test method transfer.

  • Support equipment calibration / preventive maintenance / repair activities and investigations, as needed.

  • Support change management process for applicable R&D lab changes

- Organizational activities

  • Manage inventory and related documentation including, but not limited to, product, chemicals, fixtures, and general lab supplies. Ensure timely removal and/or reordering.

  • Review testing requests and provide guidance to requestors, if needed.

  • Support workload and resource planning.

  • Conduct on-boarding and training of technicians.

- Support audits, as needed

- Maintains good laboratory practices (GLP) consistent with product development objectives and regulatory guidelines.

- Maintains good documentation practices (GDP) when generating test data and records.

Qualifications:

Education:

High school. AA or BS degree in in Engineering, Science, or other related discipline preferred.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of direct laboratory experience or equivalent education. Pharmaceutical, medical device, diagnostics, or Quality Control background preferred.

Skills:

- Knowledge of the operation of mechanical measurement equipment (e.g. Instron) desirable

- Excellent written and oral communication skills

- Knowledge of computer programs

- Working knowledge of statistics

- Superior attention to detail

- Understanding of industry standards and regulations such as ISO, FDA, OSHA, ASTM desirable

- Ability to handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously with limited supervision

-Ability to work with diverse, multi-national, cross-functional teams
