We are recruiting for a highly driven engineer with a passion for product development and a proven track record of taking products from concepts to launch.The successful candidate has a unique opportunity to join a high-caliber R&D team responsible for the Design and Development of high growth businesses within BD Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS). The incumbent will evaluate designs vs. the established product requirements (functional and stability) for products from a dynamic product engineering and new product development portfolio.Specific responsibilities may include:
Working closely with a dedicated cross-functional project team, the candidate will support product development deliverables utilizing processes and tools such as BD’s Global Product Development Systems (GPDS), Project Management and Design for Six Sigma. The candidate must have an understanding of design control and must follow BD Quality systems and comply with all regulatory and safety guidelines.
Specific responsibilities may include:
Provide R&D support during the Design and Development stages of the Product Engineering and New Product Development Projects (as applicable); Define, plan, coordinate & communicate R&D deliverables on the program and maintain a collaborative relationship with senior professional associates across functions.
Ensure the design considerations include the aspects of manufacturability, serviceability, reliability and safety.
Evaluate Design Space at System and Component levels by conducting Design of Experiments along with Engineering fundamentals and statistical analysis.
Lead junior engineers and technicians in the execution of R&D project deliverables, including product requirements and specifications, design development and verification and validation testing.
Resolve technical problems. Create solutions for technical problems using systematic problem-solving methodologies.
Develop robust test methods and design test fixtures to ensure that selected materials and prototype designs are accurately evaluated against the specification and requirements. Evaluate new test equipment by developing and conducting measurement systems analyses (gage R&R studies).
Using CAD software (i.e. Solid Works), develop or modify designs for product components. Work with internal or external services to manufacture fixtures and prototypes. Create/update 2D drawings and route through approval process.
Establish product design verification strategy, write protocols/test requests, coordinate execution and write test reports for engineering studies and design verification studies while following design control procedure.
Analyze data from the ongoing engineering studies and Design Verification and process validation activities
Support the worldwide plants with process development efforts and line / process validations
Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, international, and internal safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
Conduct in depth research and assessment of the industry landscape from IP, regulatory, products, technologies standpoint
Stay connected with the external community to maintain and share working knowledge of new and related technologies and actively contributes toward strengthening BD's IP portfolio.
Minimum BS in Mechanical, Chemical, Materials or Biomedical Engineering or related field. MS/PhD preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience leading / supporting projects medical device / pharmaceutical product development. Especially prior hands-on experience with design and development of drug-device combination products is highly desirable.
Experience with implementing product changes through a structured, phase-gated, product development process. Good understanding of medical device product development risk management methodologies (EURA, FMEA, etc.)
Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Must have experience leading / supporting Design control elements specifically design verification and process validations.
Design for Six Sigma and proficiency with basic statistical techniques including familiarity with analysis of variance (ANOVA) and design of experiment (DOE) methodologies is required.
Demonstrated engineering and design skills (CAD/CAE).
Ability to multi-task and take on multiple roles for the Product Engineering projects.
Strong sense of accountability and action orientation.
Ability to identify, break down and solve deep technical problems. Must be comfortable making practical assumptions with engineering justifications, where needed.
Systematic problem-solving skills, a strong desire & ability to learn and acquire new skills, knowledge and subject matter.
