This position will work closely with medical affairs platform and regional leads to fully understand and identify evolving customer unmet needs that could be addressed through clinical solutions approach. The position will lead the development and launch of PAS Clinical Solutions, and their continuous upgrade.

The individual reports to Director, Strategic Alliances and Clinical Solutions. This position is responsible for the following:

  • Demonstrates Preanalytical expertise focusing on improving Sample Quality and patient outcomes

  • Work closely with medical affairs platform and regional leads to fully understand and identify evolving customer unmet needs that could be addressed through clinical solutions approach.

  • Leads the design, development and launch of PAS Clinical Solutions, working cross-functionally and cross-regionally to leverage all assets (PAS services and tools)

  • Working closely with Medical Affairs platform leads and Marketing to align development of Clinical Solutions (CS) with business needs

  • Leads re-branding efforts to transition from Laboratory Consulting Services to Clinical Solutions, and initiates innovative technologies for Solution delivery to customers

  • Develops and leads processes by which continuous upgrade of the CS assets results in improved programs for competitive advantage globally

  • Works with MA, Marketing, Innovation and HEOR to embed economic and clinical outcomes, and customer value models within or complimentary to Clinical Solutions

  • Establishes trends and patterns using clinical and business data.


  • Develops and grows a cross-regional team of subject matter experts in preanalytical space, best practice utilization of PAS products and customer experience in application of PAS solution platforms.

  • Working with MA platform managers to determine business needs, design and make available the Best Practice Training educational and Preanalytical Quality Check programs to regions, allowing them to strategically engage customers to improve their preanalytical practices

  • Develop and encourage practical clinical studies to determine patient and institutional outcomes from these improvements.

  • Working with regions, monitors global metrics around the use of Clinical Solutions and their impact on customer retention, loyalty and competitive conversion.

  • Works with regions and global to build visibility for BD expertise and solutions through lectures and workshops at conferences and seminars, and through publication in industry periodicals.

  • Provide strategic input to regional and global PAS leaders with clinical initiatives which will support acceleration of sales and profitability

  • Work with internal and external technology experts to optimize the delivery of CS in ways that improve access and sustainability, while protecting BDPAS intellectual property.

  • Constantly seek program improvements, is able to identify opportunities and use optimized technology, informatics and data analytics. Able to discern what can be developed in-house versus shopped out, negotiate across business units, functions, and with vendors for appropriate platforms.

  • Serves as core or extended team member on strategic project teams to embed the development of relevant Clinical Solutions into the product development process.

  • Complies with BD legal and regulatory guidelines regarding provision of education, solutions and services to customers.

  • Stays abreast of new technologies and solutions being developed by competitors, Instrument Companies and the impact/ interface of these on BD PAS products to innovate new Clinical Solutions. Seeks to have early adopters implement CS and publish/speak about positive impact.

  • Always acting with growth strategies in mind, recommends and assists with co-marketing, co-promotion opportunities with IC partners and in preparing joint product literature. Recommends opportunities for new or revised Clinical Solutions, and advocates for development within product development process.

  • Actively volunteers with CLSI and other standard/guideline committees to maintain network of relationships, keep abreast of emerging laboratory guidelines and trends, and provide compelling data to influence guidelines and practices, where applicable.


  • B.S. in Science Discipline required; Advanced degree preferred

  • ASCP certification required

  • BS: 5+ years with experience in a clinical lab rotating through various disciplines and/or experience in a business environment in clinical or product development.

  • MS: 3+ years, same as above

  • PhD: 2+ years, same as above

  • Experience working in IVD laboratory ( preferred)– preferably in quality management.

  • Experience working with or leading teams.

  • Ability to influence without authority.

  • Quality Audit (Internal / external assessor) experience / training (e.g. for ISO 15189 / CAP).

  • Customer management experience (Application / scientific support) in IVD industry.

  • Experience in Six Sigma / Lean would be a major plus.

  • Technical Applications or other customer-facing experience within the IVD market a significant asset.


High level of networking and interpersonal relationship skills is fundamental to this position.

Can plan and organize cross-functional and cross-regional resources (people, time, material, support).

Can coordinate multiple activities at once to design, develop and implement consultancy initiatives.

Can coach and mentor others to implement consulting services, globally harmonizing the quality of analysis and presentation of reports/recommendations.


In-depth knowledge of laboratory processes, nurse and phlebotomist collection practices and their impact on Coagulation, Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis and Immunochemistry test results, and subsequent patient outcomes.

Have clinical (product) knowledge; application of clinical knowledge in relation with product, practice and process knowledge to meet and resolve market (customers') needs; picks up on clinical impact quickly; can research and learn new products, technology, applications, skills and knowledge; has capabilities to coach, mentor and transfer knowledge to regional associates for self-sufficiency in resolving customer issues.


Must rely on knowledge / experience in various Clinical Laboratory departments with blood collection products and processes to evaluate and properly assess preanalytical variables and needs, especially those requiring troubleshooting or creative problem solving approaches.

Understands Direct vs Distributor business models and has capability to optimize both through delivery of regionally-relevant Clinical Solutions
