Job Description SummaryThe Buyer performs the detailed purchasing functions as part of a Supply Chain Team and is accountable for the supply management of raw materials. The position supports and works closely with Manufacturing Operations, Global Demand Planning and Company Procurement. The Buyer also determines inventory parameters, manages purchase orders, communicates delivery schedules, expedites material, processes returns and resolves payment issues. Follow all GMP, regulatory and ISO guidelines including company policies and departmental procedures

This position will be cross-trained to act as a back up for a production planner.

Job Description

Major Daily and Weekly Activities
  • Maintain appropriate level of raw material inventory.

  • Convert MRP requirements to purchase orders.

  • Convert expense requisitions to purchase orders.

  • Manage open purchase orders.

  • Communicate delivery information to Suppliers

  • Communicate delivery delays to Planners.

  • Expedite materials as required.

  • Minimize raw material shortages and resulting backorders.

  • Maintain accurate master data in system (lead times, order quantities, safety stock, etc)

  • Process material returns.

  • Work with Invoice Processors to resolve payment issues.

  • Inform Strategic Sourcing Managers of critical supplier performance problems and work with them to resolve.

  • Perform regular vendor evaluations

  • Process Engineering Change Orders, Change Notices and Deviation Waivers as needed.

  • Manage vendor related preventative and corrective actions.

  • Review and resolve open and past due documents.

  • Create and maintain Supplier Specifications.

  • Supports the Custom Product Process in new product development.

Projects and Other Activities
  • Ensure integrity of all SAP master data including frequently reviews of MRP parameters

  • Participates or leads cross-functional teams for establishing new products and processes

  • Participates in Product Optimization Program reviews

  • Tracks and analyzes all Supply Chain Metrics

  • Identifies opportunities and risks related to inventory levels and variances to plan

  • Periodically reviews and dispositions Excess & Obsolete, Unscheduled, Expired inventories
