By joining our team, you will have an opportunity to work with our customers and various BD business units including Diabetes Care, Digital Health, Technical Solutions, and BD Technologies in conjunction with a SAIS cross-functional project team to successfully ideate, conceptualize, design and commercialize new products that are enabled with integrated electronic componentry.
This is a creative, hands-on position that requires strong electronic device design integration and engineering skills, creative thinking, and the ability to work efficiently as a key member of a multidisciplinary team. This role is part of the R&D team focused on developing our next generation products. As a R&D Electromechanical Systems Integrator, you will be the R&D Core Team Member of a cross-functional project team and the Technology Integrator of a R&D multi-disciplinary team on an advanced technology development project.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
Leading research activities specific to software based electromechanical integration into Global Product Development
Generating detailed concept proposals for future applications of solutions based on new developments in software/firmware design and other technological innovations.
Ideating, developing and commercializing new or improved products that solve customer needs
Technology integration of all R&D activities from concept through launch on large complex multi-disciplinary new product development programs to create robust, high performance devices to meet functional requirements and cost targets including:
Serve as the single point focus for R&D and conduit to core team
R&D budget and schedule management
Maintain alignment across R&D functions (inside and outside)
Identify and resolve conflicting requirements
Accountable for Technical Risk Management, Risk Identification and Mitigation for new large product development programs.
Involved from concept through launch, the R&D Electromechanical Systems Integrator is responsible for the architectural design and integration for products developed both internally and externally (including OEMs, contract development and joint-ventures) including
Architectural definition and block diagrams
Interface definition and documentation
UFMEA technical expert
Ongoing Requirements management
Coordinating development activities with BD subject matter experts over multiple business units, in addition to internal project teams.
Coordinating internal development activities with cross functional project teams.
Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques
Report and escalate to management as needed
Work with team members and leaders to reach alignment on system requirements and design.
Identify risks in in the design and development of products. Communicate this to the team and to management. Drive and track activities to a path to reduce and retire these risks.
Identify and bridge gaps between R&D disciplinary groups. Guide mechanical, software, systems, and electrical engineering functions to develop comprehensive product solutions that meet customer requirements.
Use expert technical skills, conceive, plan and lead multi-disciplinary R&D product development activities from concept phase through launch phase to achieve project goals.
Leverage understanding of first engineering principles, advanced engineering methods, data and judgment to influence the course of product development activities.
Complete R&D milestones within established schedules and budgets.
Lead or participate in design reviews. Thoroughly assess the ability of proposed designs to meet specified requirements, including manufacturability.
Create, document, and test designs as an individual contributor as needed.
Ensures quality conduct of projects, including design, data summary and interpretation, report and manuscript preparation and review adherence to applicable regulations.
Interacts with BD senior leadership on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between business units.
Contributes to the successful completion of projects.
Ensure compliance with BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through appropriate communication, training, and education of sound quality assurance principles
Create and stimulate an open environment conductive to the creativity, innovation and "out of the box" approaches and solutions that will define next generation competitive product offerings for SAIS.
Available for 25% travel, primarily in the US
Experience and Education:
Engineering Degree in Electronics, Software, Mechanical, Systems or related field. Advanced Degree preferred
12 years of product-embedded electronics experience, medical industry preferred with demonstrated success developing software based electromechanical devices
